At first glance, a kite retreat, a kite camp and a kite holiday can seem like the same thing. You travel somewhere windy for kitesurfing. But in reality, these experiences are very different - and choosing the right one can completely change how your kite trip feels.
Before anything else, one important note: while we call what we do a kite retreat, many people refer to the same concept as a kite camp. Both describe a guided, structured kitesurfing experience, the focus differs, depending on what camp or retreat you choose.
Independent kite holiday
A kite holiday usually means organising everything yourself. You choose the kite destination, find accommodation, research kite spots, select a kite school or station and plan your days independently.
This can be a great option if you:
• are already confident and independent on the water
• enjoy planning and organising your own trips
• prefer full freedom and flexibility
• like spending time mostly on your own or with people you already know
A kite holiday offers a lot of independence - but also requires responsibility, decision-making and experience, both on and off the water. If that sounds like you – perfect.
What is a kite retreat or kite camp?
A kite retreat or kite camp takes the mental load off your shoulders. As organizers, we take care of all the things that often cause stress or uncertainty during a kite trip.
This includes:
• choosing the right destination and the best kite spots
• working closely with trusted kite stations as well as organizing all needed services for you
• organising transfers, accommodation, meals, etc.
• creating a relaxed but thoughtful holiday schedule beyond kiting
One of the biggest differences is the support on the water. During our kite retreats, we offer full support: helping you at the beach with your gear, answering questions, assisting with launches - and coaching you directly on the water. This allows you to improve your skills safely and efficiently, whether you’re taking your very first kite steps or working on advanced tricks.
The role of the group
The group dynamic is a central part of any kite retreat or kite camp. Learning, riding and spending time together creates an environment where people support each other naturally.
That said, a retreat doesn’t mean constant togetherness. We pay close attention to making sure everyone truly enjoys their holiday. Some participants want to kite for six hours a day. Others prefer a relaxed session followed by reading a book on the beach. With us, everything is allowed and everything is possible – we just want you to have a good time.
If you genuinely don’t enjoy group settings at all, a kite retreat or kite camp might not be the right choice. Otherwise, most people quickly find their place and their rhythm.
Safety, ease and peace of mind
A safe and supportive environment is one of the biggest added values of a kite retreat or kite camp. Knowing that experienced people are around - on the beach and on the water - allows you to relax, focus on yourself and enjoy the process.
And quite simply: going on a kite trip with a group of like-minded, inspiring women is often just more fun. Sharing sessions, laughter and experiences tends to turn strangers into friends faster than anyone expects.
In fact, what surprises our participants the most is how quickly deep connections form and how naturally everyone gets along. We’ve been doing this for years, so it doesn’t surprise us anymore, but we still love witnessing it every single time.
One sentence we hear again and again:
“This was the coolest (kite) holiday I’ve ever been on.”
(And we think that is something to be VERY proud of.)
The philosophy of our kitesurf retreats
We consciously distance ourselves from anything that revolves purely around performance pressure and constant progression. We truly believe that progress comes through joy, lightness and safety - not stress.
Both a kite holiday and a kite retreat or kite camp can be wonderful experiences. They’re simply different. The right choice depends on what you’re looking for right now.
Our goal is to create an environment where you don’t have to worry about organization, decisions or safety so you can focus on what really matters: enjoying kitesurfing, feeling good in your body and having an unforgettable time on and off the water.
