Where is the best place to learn kitesurfing?

This is one of the questions we get asked most often - and the honest answer is: there is no single, universal answer. Learning to kitesurf depends on many factors, and what feels easy for one person might feel challenging for another. That said, there are conditions and choices that can make learning noticeably smoother, safer and more enjoyable.

The right conditions make a big difference

Certain environmental factors are your best friends when learning to kite:

  • Stable wind – consistent wind helps you focus on technique instead of constantly adapting.

  • Flat water – fewer waves mean easier board control and faster progress.

  • Side-onshore or sideshore wind – these wind directions are considered the safest, especially for beginners.

These conditions reduce stress, increase safety and allow you to build confidence step by step.

Safety and instruction matter more than the spot

No matter how good the conditions are, learning to kitesurf should never be done without proper instruction.

Important factors beyond wind and water:

  • A spot with solid safety standards (rescue options, clear launch areas, space).

  • A professional kite school with certified, experienced instructors.

We ALWAYS recommend taking lessons - not to slow you down, but to protect you. Kitesurfing is an incredible sport, but only when it’s approached with respect for safety, yourself and others on the water.

How to learn faster (and better)

Progress isn’t just about being on the water every single day. How you approach learning matters.

  • Ask questions. If something is unclear, ask again. That’s exactly what your instructor is there for.

  • Repeat the basics. Going through all steps multiple times builds real understanding. Our tutorial videos can help you revisit techniques between sessions. Click HERE to see our tutorial series LEARN TO FLY

  • Take rest days. Learning to kite is intense — physically and mentally. It should be fun, not exhausting. Your body and mind need breaks to properly process what you’ve learned.

Easy conditions vs. challenging spots

Spots with extremely beginner-friendly conditions, often described as “laboratory conditions,” like many locations in Egypt for example are fantastic for learning, especially if you have a lot of respect for the sport or the water itself. They provide a calm, controlled environment where fear doesn’t get in the way of progress.

However, it’s important to understand the trade-off: after learning in very easy conditions, kiting at other spots may initially feel more demanding.

On the other hand, learning at a slightly more challenging spot can be harder at first, but it often makes you more adaptable and confident in the long run.

So… where is the best place to learn?

There isn’t one single “best” spot. The ideal learning environment depends on:

  • your personality

  • your mindset

  • your physical confidence

  • your previous water or board sport experience

Easy spots make learning feel smoother. More demanding spots build versatility. Neither approach is better - it’s about what fits you.

What matters most is choosing a place and a structure that supports your learning style.
